How to Teach Your Dog Sit, Stand, and Down
Teaching your dog basic commands builds good behavior and trust. Use treats, patience, and short training sessions.
Sit
Hold a treat near your dog’s nose and move it upward. As their head follows, their bottom will touch the ground. Say “Sit”, then reward.
Stand
Start with your dog sitting. Move a treat slowly forward from their nose. When they stand up, say “Stand” and reward.
Down
From a sitting position, lower a treat to the ground and move it forward. When your dog lies down, say “Down” and reward.
Training Tips
Train for 5–10 minutes, repeat daily, and always praise your dog.
